Shotgun Mic?
I just recently bought a shotgun mic and my camcorder doesnt have a place to plug it in at, the mic itself takes a battery and I was wondering, with I pluged it into the line in spot of my mp3 player, would it be able to pick it up? The input on your Zen is a “line” input. It is designed to record the output of a CD player “line out” or headphone out. The microphone puts out a much lower signal than “line” level. If your tried to record with it, the volume would be VERY low.
You need to boost the signal from the mic up to line level. There are many devices that can do this. My first choice would be a small mixer if you don’t need to be mobile (it plugs into AC power):

There are other products out there too, but you may end up paying more for them than both the player and the mic combined.
