Is it ok to use a cable lock on an autoloading shotgun?
I just got an autoloading shotgun and I’m not sure how the best way is to store it…with the action open or closed. I have a cable lock I was going to put through the action, which means it would have to stay open, but I wasn’t sure if it would damage the recoil spring in any way.
Any thoughts?
I wouldn’t want the action left open on a semi-auto shotgun. Over time it may weaken the spring as you thought. Perhaps if your cable is plastic coated you could put the cable in the loading door and out the ejection port. Then hold the bolt from snapping shut and allow it to slowly close part way. The cable will prevent it from closing all the way.
