The two seem totally at odds with each other – the picture quality and size. It was a golden rule from the invention of photography a larger camera with a larger recording area (either silver or silicon) that – on equal terms – products of superior image quality. Y for photographers continue to schlep around cameras and lenses that are weighing down all in the quest for optimal viewing.
On the other hand, we all would be free of liens. To walk around a foreign city (or a dangerous one) without calling attention to the weight and sometimes a digital SLR camera would be good. To take a walk in the woods with spouses, able to photograph the mist of the morning or a chance encounter with a deer, without the burden (both literal and metaphorical) that consists of a digital SLR camera is something many of us want.
The digital revolution has given us countless cute, small, cheap and well presented little pocket cameras that seems to do the trick. For some users do it. For snapshots at family gatherings or vacation pictures end up being rather small prints of Walmart, which are often very good. But for the more serious photographer and critic, no matter how These cameras may be attractive in terms of features that are often disappointing in terms of image quality ( Kodak .)
The reason is simple: small sensors. For example, the Ricoh GR2, a pocket digital camera very popular among photographers more serious has a sensor that measures 7.6 x 9.5 mm. This is about the size used in the SLR digital downloads such as the Canon 40D and Nikon D300, and a little larger than 4 / 3 format used by Olympus and others in their DSLRs.
To comparison a little easier to see we will compare the diagonals of these formats. The GR2 Ricoh and Canon G9 (digital cameras and the like) have sensors near a diagonal of 10 mm. On the other hand, a digital SLR camera 4 / 3 format, such as Olympus, has a diagonal of 22.5 mm. A typical Nikon or Canon or Pentax DSLR a rough APS-C size sensor has a diagonal of about 28 mm. Godzilla was right – size does matter.
