Kingfisher Airlines
History
Kingfisher Airlines based in the Torres UB Group in Bangalore, India
The airline commenced operations on May 9 In 2005, after the dry lease four new Airbus A320-200 aircraft. Its first flight was from Bombay to Delhi. At the launch of the airline, Dr Mallya said that is "committed to achieving our ambition to make the largest private airline Kingfisher Airlines of India, both in capacity and market share 2010. "
Kingfisher was the first airline in India that in-flight entertainment (IFE) on all security systems including domestic flights. All passengers were given a "welcome kit" which includes goodies like a pen, paper, facial and headphones for use with the IFE system. At first, passengers were able to see only recorded TV programming on the IFE system, but later formed a partnership with Dish TV to offer live TV during the flight. And in a marked departure from tradition, Kingfisher Airlines decided to have a safety demonstration on the screen using the IFE system.
On July 14, 2008, Kingfisher unveiled its first widebody aircraft, an Airbus A330-200 (registered VT-VJL) in the 46th Farnborough Airshow site in July 2008. First Kingfisher Airbus A330-200 was widely advertised (as the press release from the airline) as the best A330-200 ever built Airbus.
On 03 September 2008, Kingfisher started its international operations by connecting Bangalore to London. On September 15, 2009, the London service retired.
On February 23, 2010 Kingfisher announced it would join the Oneworld airline alliance in 2011 subject to regulatory approval.
