Radioactive Lenses – Are they dangerous?
I have 'Asahi Super-Takumar 50mm f1.4 Fast Lens – Pentax M42 and I've been reading that contain some Radioactive material is it harmful? I have read its only harmful if you look at the objective for ages and ages, but I'm not sure .. Do other things pollute and the camera? Also, if you are a safe place to store them when not its time to get used? He arrived with a box of lead metal and put it in his will that makes it safer to store?
People today get all scared as soon as we read the word "radioactive." There is a bit of radioactivity around us at all times, and some things are naturally more radioactive than others. For example, pieces of coal, depending on where in the mine. Or the light units in the wrist. Do not worry about it. If not sure, then things could not be sold legally. Just put in the lead box (you can, indicating that there is a little more radioactivity than other materials) should be fine. Or, if you worry about that, then just jump.
