How I can get more detail in deep sky images?
I have an 8 "Dobsonian reflector, f = 1200 mm. Im using a 10mm or 25mm Plossl eyepiece with a 2x Barlow. However when I try to see deep sky images as the Andromeda galaxy, all I see is a faint stain. Is there a combination of eyepiece / Barlow I seek to resolve the spiral or am looking for a bigger area?
Because of the angle that is less for our line of view, it is quite difficult to see the structure both in the Andromeda galaxy. The most obvious feature is the sharp edge on one side in a dust lane cuts Light beyond the spiral arms. It is much easier to see the spiral structure in the face of the galaxies, including M51. But overall, most galaxies seem weak spots, even in large telescopes. The best way to improve their views of them is to observe from a site with a very dark sky.
